The Pension Minute is amended by the insertion of the

following clause next after clause No.19.

No. 19A.

1. When any officer who is borne on the Fixed Establishment

of the Colony and whose service in the Colony for pension

purposes is not less than ten years dies while in such

service then and in any such case his widow or orphan child

or children (if any) may be awarded by the Governor in

Council a gratuity equal to the officer's substantive salary

for the twelve months terminating at his death.

2. When any officer who having been borne on the Fixed

Establishment of the Colony and having served in the Colony for not less than ten years dies within a year of his retirement from such service on pension then and in any

such case his widow or orphan child or children (if any)

may be awarded by the Governor in Council a gratuity equal

to the officer's substantive salary for the twelve months

terminating at such retirement less the total amount of his

pension calculated to the date of his death.

3. In special cases where it is shown to the satisfaction

of the Governor in Council that an officer whose case comes

within either of the preceding paragraphs of this clause

died a bachelor, or a widower and childless, leaving some person or persons wholly or partially dependent upon him the Governor in Council may award to such dependent or

dependents a gratuity not exceeding the amount which might

have been awarded if the officer so dying had left a widow. In awarding such gratuity the person or persons to receive

the same, and, if more than one person, the proportions to

be received, will be determined by the Governor in Council.
